Where is Kyoto?


Kyoto is the ancient capital city in Japan. It is placed in the middle east (Kinki district) of Japan (Fig.1).

International Airport to JR Kyoto Station

Kansai International Airport (KIX) - - > JR Kyoto Station (recommended)

*"Haruka" JR-WEST (West Japan Railway) (75 min.) 3290yen (One-way fare, ticket 1,830 yen. fee for limited express seat 1,660 yen)

JR limited express train. Transfer not required. (recommended)

*Airport limousine services ( 105 min.- 125 min.) 2300yen

*Shared Taxi ( a few hours) 3000yen

From New Tokyo International Airport (Narita) to JR kyoto station, you may choose one of the following three.

New Tokyo International Airport (Narita) - - > JR Tokyo Station --> JR Kyoto Station (recommended)

* JR Narita Express Train (53 min.; Time Table) - change to - JR Shinkansen Nozomi Super Express (165min. Bullet Train ; Fare)

Take JR Narita Express Train to JR Tokyo Station , then board on JR Shinkansen Nozomi Super Express or JR Shinkansen Hikari [bound for "Hakata" via "Shin-Osaka", "Okayama" and "Hiroshima"] which runs every 15-20 minutes to JR Kyoto Station . (If you travel around Japan, check out JR Rail Pass! It's much cheaper than normal fare. It is valid for most of the JR Group trains except Nozomi.) If you lost your way in Tokyo Station, dial 3423 - 0111 ( JR East English Language Telephone Service).

New Tokyo International Airport (Narita) - - > Kansai International Airport - - > JR Kyoto Station

*Domestic flight (1 hour and 10 minutes) - change to - Airport limousine bus

Take a Domestic flight to Kansai International Airport . Only a few flights are available each day. Airport limousine services run from Kansai International Airport to JR Kyoto Station.

New Tokyo International Airport (Narita) - - > Haneda Airport- - > Kansai International Airport - - > JR Kyoto Station

*Airport limousine bus (2 hours) - change to - Domestic flight (1 hour) - change to - Domestic flight (1 hour) - change to - Airport limousine bus

Take an Airport limousine to Haneda Airport . There are approximately 15 flights daily from Haneda to Kansai International Airport .

JR Kyoto Station to Kyoto University Clock Tower Centennial Hall

JR Kyoto Station --> Kyoto University Clock Tower Centennial Hall

International Conference Hall of Kyoto University Clock Tower Centennial Hall is at Yoshida Main Campus in Kyoto University. It is located in northeast from "Kyoto station" of West Japan Railway(JR). Taking a city bus (bus routes.pdf) or a tax from the Kyoto station is convenient.

:*BUS (30-40min.) 220 yen (One-way fare )

"206":Bus terminal D2 in Kyoto Station - - -> Konoe-dori -> Kyodai Seimon-mae -> Hyakumanben

One is "206" [bound for "Kitaoji Bus Terminal" via "Higashiyama Street (= Higashi-oji St.)"]. Get on the bus from the back door at bus terminal D2 in Kyoto Station. Then get off the bus from the front door at the bus stop, "Kyodai Seimon-mae", after "Konoe-dori" and before "Hyakumanben".

"17":Bus terminal A2 in Kyoto Station - - -> Dematiyanagi-eki -> Hyakumanben

Another bus is number "17" [ bound for Ginkaku-ji via Kawaramachi Street] at Bus terminal A3 in Kyoto Station. Get off the bus at the bus stop, "Hyakumanben" after "Dematiyanagi-eki".

You will notice to the driver by pusing a bell botton in the bus when you arrive . The bus fare is 220 yen. Pay it to the driver when you leave. Kyoto University Clock Tower is approximately five minutes walk from these bus stops.

*From Hankyu Railway "Kawaramachi Station" to"Kyodai Seimon Mae"

Exit No.6
*Bus (15-25min.) 220yen :Take city bus "201" [bound for "Hyakumanben-Gion"] or city bus" 31" [bound for "Iwakura"] from the East bound bus stop on Shijo-Dori to "Kyodai Seimon Mae" bus stop. Kyoto University Clock Tower is approximately 5min walk from the bus stop.

*Taxi (10-15min.) Approximately 1,300yen.(One-way fare )

*From Keihan Railway "Demachi-Yanagi Station" to "Kyodai Seimon Mae"

Exit No.2 or No.4
*Walk (15min.)

*Taxi (5min.) Approximately 700yen.(One-way fare )
