Cooperative Tracking of a Single Object by Multiple Observation Stations

The view of an observation station is limited and background objects may occlude a target object in cluttered scenes. Therefore a group of observation stations should cooperate with each other to keep tracking the target object in a wide spread area.

We have implemented the above appearance based object detection and tracking method in four observation stations with APS cameras, and are designing communication protocols for cooperative tracking of a single object. Fig. 16 illustrates a basic processing scheme in each observation station, where a cycle of event detection tex2html_wrap_inline1596 state transition tex2html_wrap_inline1596 action tex2html_wrap_inline1596 event detection is repeated. Note that in this model, the action sets up a focusing region to guide the perception, controls the camera action, and/or submits a message depending on the current state. An event is detected through the perception and/or the message acception, by which the state is changed.
